Privacy Policy

whatismineip.com ("we", "us") is a free tool that shows visitors their own public IP address and the approximate location associated with it. We designed it to process as little data as possible. This policy explains what is processed, by whom, and the choices you have.

1. The IP lookup itself

When you visit the homepage, your browser sends your public IP address to our server — this happens automatically with every website you visit anywhere on the internet; it's how the web works. We use it for exactly one purpose: to display it back to you, together with the approximate location, provider and network details derived from it.

2. Server logs

Like virtually all websites, our web server keeps standard, short-lived access logs (IP address, requested page, timestamp, browser user-agent) for security monitoring, abuse prevention and troubleshooting. These logs are rotated automatically and are not used for marketing or shared with third parties except where required by law.

3. Geolocation and map services

IP-based location is approximate (typically city-level) and is never your exact address.

4. Advertising (Google AdSense)

This site is funded by advertising served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads, and — where you have consented or where permitted — to personalise them based on your visits to this and other websites.

Visitors in the EEA/UK/Switzerland may be shown a consent message before personalised ads are served, in line with Google's EU user consent policy.

5. Cookies

We do not set first-party tracking cookies ourselves. Cookies you may encounter on this site are set by the advertising services described above. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; the IP checker works fully without them.

6. Analytics

We currently use no third-party analytics platform. If that changes, this policy will be updated first.

7. Children

This site provides a general-audience network utility and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. We serve no content directed at children.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live (e.g. GDPR in the EU/UK, CCPA/CPRA in California), you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data, and to object to or limit certain processing. Since we don't maintain visitor accounts or profiles, most requests will concern the advertising partners listed above — their links include the relevant controls. For anything relating to this site directly, contact us below.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves (for example, if we add analytics or new features). The effective date at the top reflects the latest revision.
