WHOIS, modernised

This tool uses RDAP — the structured, registry-run successor to classic WHOIS — to show who operates an IP range or domain. For IPs you'll see the allocated range, network name, registered country and the operating organisation with its abuse contacts. For domains: registrar, status flags, nameservers, and creation/expiry dates (registrant identities are typically redacted for privacy these days).

Remember: for a home user's IP, WHOIS names the ISP, never the subscriber. See how to read WHOIS results, and use the IP location lookup for geolocation data.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the domain owner's name hidden?

Privacy regulation (GDPR) and registrar privacy services redact personal registrant data by default. Dates, registrar, status and nameservers remain public.

What is RDAP?

The Registration Data Access Protocol — WHOIS rebuilt on JSON and HTTPS, served by the same registries. Same data, machine-readable, and queryable straight from a browser.
